New Cervélo Caledonia-5 Lets You Ride Bigger, Longer, and Stupider Than Ever

Debuting in 2020, Cervélo's Caledonia was designed as their endurance road bike, with aero tube shapes for a modern take on a classic ride. That original Caledonia and Caledonia-5 was a great bike; Cervélo learned a lot, but times change, and it was time for an update on the Caledonia platform.

Enter the new Caledonia-5, still made for your biggest, stupidest rides, but refined and enhanced to make the ride experience even smoother, whether it's an all-day epic rolling into the triple digits, or an after work pizza ride. Caledonia-5 is built for high speeds and long distances, building in comfort where it's needed without sacrificing the Cervélo race bike feel.

What's New?

The new Caledonia-5 builds on everything that's great about the old bike, making improvements that allow you, the rider, to go faster for longer. Similar to the recent revisions on the Aspero, the new Cal-5 changes focus on meaningful enhancements to the bike including utility and comfort.

One of the biggest changes on the new Caledonia-5 is the inclusion of in-frame storage. While not as big as a mountain bike downtube, there's plenty of space for a mini-pump, a tube, a multi-tool and a CO2, meaning you can move those rarely-reached for spares from on the bike to in the bike, keeping the lines clean and aero.

Further refinements aim to make the ride more comfortable, so whether it's a training ride, or you're going for big KMs, you'll be comfortable in the saddle. Similar to the Aspero, the new Cal-5 features dropped seatstays, building compliance into the rear end and transmitting fewer of those road vibrations to the rider. Keeping things tight, the downtube features a little more stiffness, for pro-level response when laying down the power.

Features

The new Caledonia-5 comes in six frame sizes, from 48cm - 61cm, and two colours: Five Black, and Carmine, with only one grade of carbon used throughout. There are five spec levels from Rival - Red/Dura Ace, with a Frameset option too.

Much like the old bike, the new Caledonia-5 uses aero tube shapes throughout the frame design, for maximising aero efficiency. While it's not a full aero bike like the S5 or P5, it utilises Cervélo's knowledge on aerodynamics to the max while still retaining the ride properties Cervélo wanted.

Because the Caledonia-5 was designed to be the grab and go daily driver, it was important for it to be useable year-round, which is why it has the same hidden fender mounts as the previous bike. The new Cal-5 also keeps the big tire clearance, with enough room for big comfy 36c tires.

Similarly to the last bike the new Caledonia-5 also features fully internal cabling, but making things easier for everyone, it uses a split bearing cap in the headset, meaning brake hoses don't have to be cut or bled for the stack to be altered in any way. That new split bearing cap is also backwards-compatible with the old Cal-5, by the way.

Because Cervélo believe in their bikes, and they want you to too, the Caledonia-5 has a lifetime frame warranty, just like every other bike they make.
