June 12, 2013

Steed Cycles is now taking pre-order’s for the second 650b wheel all-mountain bike Santa Cruz Bikes has launched this season. Introducing the SOLO!

From the Santa Cruz web site:

With Bronson landing amidst more hype than a free-falling Austrian, you’d be forgiven for thinking we’d burnt up on big launches for the year. But the show has just begun. Solo pushes further into the realms of 27.5? possibilities. Developed using what we learned from Bronson, it takes the design platform in a different direction. The low bottom bracket height, shorter chainstays and 125mm of progressive VPP suspension give Solo its snappy, nimble, ride.

A 68 degree head angle adds climbing agility into the equation, whilst a 5lb carbon frame weight define Solo as the tool for that back country mission you’ve always planned.

Responsibly offered in Mountain Rescue Orange, Solo goes where no bike has gone before.

Steed Cycles will be carrying the SOLO in both carbon and aluminum and as with most Santa Cruz Bikes, pricing will depend on build kit, fork and wheel options.

Santa Cruz 2013 Tallboy LT Carbon

Santa Cruz 2013 Tallboy LT Carbon

We waved the carbon fiber wand at the new Tallboy LT, offering all the same features, and ended up with a frame that weighs 5.18 pounds with a shock bolted in there. That is not a typo. 135mm travel, VPP suspension, great big wheels, 142x12mm rear axle, ISCG05 mounts, plenty of beef where it counts, and the damn thing only weighs 5.18 pounds (this is worth repeating). That’s obscenely light for this type of bike. In spite of the feathery weight, this is still an aggressive all-mountain contender, and as such is stiff enough and strong enough to devour anything you throw at it without so much as a twitch.

Santa Cruz 2013 Blur TR Carbon

Santa Cruz 2013 Blur TR Carbon

Introduced with the intent of either a) giving XC riders a bike that offered more steep terrain prowess without sacrificing weight or climbing performance, or b) as an XC bike for downhillers, or c) the much lighter but still very aggressive reincarnation of the dearly departed Blur 4X, the Blur TRc has found itself at home in all the above mentioned garages. 125mm travel, super light and stiff carbon fiber frame, VPP suspension, new school geometry pairing a snappy pedaling position with a rangy top tube and corner carving laid back head angle, these elements have all coalesced into a category defying bike that has also become the sweetheart of the growing Enduro race scene.

Santa Cruz 2013 Nomad Aluminum

Santa Cruz 2013 Nomad Aluminum

We try to avoid category over-analysis and coming up with nifty acronyms. Instead, we build bikes for the needs of the riders we know. And we know a whole lot of people who go on long hard rides to find very burly terrain. That’s the reason for the Nomad. The 160mm of travel, stout aluminum frame with 1.5″ headtube, ISCG05 chainguide mount and 67 degree head angle could lead one to think the Nomad’s a scaled down downhill bike. Meanwhile, the refined and flattened VPP suspension curve makes the Nomad pedaling performance light and responsive. Simply put, the Nomad defies easy categorization. On the one hand it’s a downhill sparring partner, and on the other hand an everyday, everywhere, every trail kind of bike.

Santa Cruz 2013 Nomad Carbon

2012_Nomadc_Profile_Green

Cooking up the Nomad carbon involved a pretty simple recipe: take everything people loved about the Nomad, shake it up and add carbon fiber. The result is a leaner, sleeker, and even more responsive Nomad. Supplanting the aluminum frame with carbon fiber reduced weight by 3/4 of a pound AND increased frame strength and stiffness dramatically. It is the kind of strength that makes life easy when it comes coping with 5,000 foot rock garden descents, cased gap jumps and drops to flat on a daily basis, or whatever else a true Nomad might encounter in his or her wanderings.
