Steed Ride Club 2017 – That’s A Wrap!

$3.17 a ride. If you can find a better value for your money every Wednesday evening and Sunday morning, please let me know. And then there’s the monthly BBQs at the shop, the free jersey, the discount on parts and accessories and clothing, and the camaraderie.

Steed Ride Club 2017 is a wrap. And oh, what distances we covered. From classic Stanley Park loops to Horseshoe Bay and Cypress, from Burnaby Mountain to Belcarra and beyond, Spanish Banks and UBC and Iona Beach, and, of course, the always interesting and often hilly routes on Steed Cycles’ home slopes of the North Shore.

All the way from April through September, we rode. We rode for fun, we rode to challenge ourselves, we rode to prepare for events we’d been looking forward to all year. From the World Tuesday Night Championships to BC Super Week and the Tour de Victoria, to various GranFondo events, to triathlon, to cross-country and enduro mountain bike racing, to extended weekend adventures, we all come for different reasons and it sure is nice to see such a great mix of riders out every week.

When I look back at a full season from April through September, and I consider how many people came out and rode with us week after week, the statistics are mind boggling. With a few quick calculations, I can easily say that we collectively covered more than 100,000 km this year. That’s huge. And you were a part of it!

So this is a collective thank you from all of the Ride Club leaders, from the Steed Cycles staff, and from your fellow riders for making this another great year filled with getting fit and getting fast, covering distance and achieving goals, and of course, enjoying a few burgers and beers along the way. We welcome your feedback via email or in person at the shop.

Looking into the future we’ve already begun planning the 2018 Steed Ride Club season, with opportunities to get involved beyond the traditional ride club format. For now, cyclocross season is here – grab your cowbells and come and cheer on the team – or suit up and jump in. As always, you can keep up to date on news and events through the Steed Cycles Instagram and Facebook pages. See you around!

Pretty and Gritty Ride, First Day out.

Mother’s Day ushered in the first Pretty and Gritty women’s mountain bike ride on a spectacular warm and sunny day. We set out to explore the Seymour trails, splitting into two groups. The more advanced group headed up the mountain, while the other half of us stuck on the lower trails. We started the ride up Old Buck and over Bridal Path to the Highschool League Loop. The fast, flowy trail was so much fun that we opted to ride it again! We finished up with with a super fun loamy trail that brought us back onto Hyannis, over the golf course, back to Bridal path and one last thrill down Empress Bypass. Thanks to all who came out. You gals rock! Stay tuned for our next ride Sunday, June 8th on Fromme.

Specialized’s Chris Riekert walks us through the 2013 S-Works Venge aero race bike.

Flyers off the front. Monster pulls. All-out sprints to the line. Venge riders absolutely live for this stuff—that’s why they demand complete performance: the winning formula of weight, stiffness, and aerodynamics. The Venge’s competition-crushing combo of Tarmac-inspired stiffness and light weight with Shiv-inspired aerodynamics keeps them ahead of the competition. The Venge truly is your race day weapon.
